“If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord & believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Confession is where we take the word of God and speak it aloud to our self to begin to minister to our very own soul. Our soul is our mind, will, intellect and emotions. The soul is one of the places we have to get rid of our unbelief and to change how we think and feel about our circumstances. We need to take the Word of God that pertains to our needs and say them aloud to ourselves daily.
Jesus said “I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter” (Matthew 12:36). Our words have power to affect our present situations and they also determine our future. We are living today based on the words which we have spoken in the past. Each word that we speak has either creative or destructive power. Relationships can be destroyed by words or lack of words, things that are said or things that should be said that are not said, hence we need to replace our negative words, with the Word of God. Jesus said “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). So our words determine the state of our heart.
When we are discouraged we need to confess “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1), “The LORD will not fail me or forsake me” (1 Chronicles 28:20), “I will not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD is with me” (Isaiah 41:10) “No one shall be able to stand against me” (Joshua 1:5), “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).
We see this in the life of David, it was impossible for David to fight against Goliath without the Word of God continuously coming out of his mouth. When Saul tried to discourage David saying “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight against him; for you are just a boy” (1 Samuel 17:3) David reminded Saul all the victories he had in the past when he killed the lions and bears. David said “Your servant has killed both lions and bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God” (1 Samuel 17:36).
When we are sick we need to confess “By his wounds I am healed” (1 Peter 2:24), “He heals all my diseases” (Psalm 103:3), “He sent out his word and healed me” (Psalm 107:20), “You are the LORD who heals me” (Exodus 15:26), “By your bruises I am healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
We see the same in the Old Testament, God himself speaks to Ezekiel and says “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. I will lay sinews on you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD”(Ezekiel 37:4-6). So Ezekiel prophesied just as the LORD commanded him. “Suddenly there was a noise, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh came upon them, and skin had covered them…” (Ezekiel 37:7-9).
Confessing the Word of God must be done daily because it produces hope and hope produces faith (Romans 10:17) but when we confess we need to have faith that the “Word of God is living and active” (Hebrews 4:12) because “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6).
