One must ask himself, whether, he lives to eat or eats to live? Many in the world are so much worried about Roti, Kapda aur Makan means, what to eat, what to wear and where to live. My dear brothers and sisters, listen, what Jesus says “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than the clothing?” (Mt. 6:25). We all are over concerned about our needs of the body. But Jesus tells us “It is the spirit which gives life, the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (Jn. 6:63)
Yes! My dear brothers and sisters, we should strive for the food for the soul. Many in the world have enough to eat, but they are not happy. Many eat a lot but they are not healthy. Many wear very expensive clothes but they look miserable, they don’t have joy on their face. Many live in the palaces but they don’t get good sleep. Many have got so many luxuries yet they are not satisfied. We read in the Gospel of Luke the parable of the rich fool who said “I will say to my soul, soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry. But God said to him; you fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” (Luke. 12:19-20).
So, brothers and sisters, let us not look for comforts but let us look for the comforter. Don’t look for gifts, instead look for the giver; Remember, what Jesus said “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mt. 4:4). Let us live like the children of light and hence lay aside the desires of the body. St. Paul appeals to us saying “Let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy, instead put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh; to gratify its desires” (Rom. 13:13-14). Peace be with you. Amen.
