Many of us would have watched movies or pictures or TV serials or short commercial films. The main theme in all is revenge. Due to some reason one character in the film becomes the villian and swears to take revenge on the hero or heroine. And in the end of the film the revenge is taken and the film is over. There are many cases like this in real life too; maybe in your life too; where your want to fight against a relative or friend or neighbour and take revenge. But this is not what the Holy Bible tells us to do. In Exodus 14:14 we read “The Lord will fight for you and you have only to keep still.” It is very difficult to forget incidents and to forget the bad that some people have done to us. Sometimes, we want to fight back by doing the same that they did to us. But if we do the same, then what is the difference between them and us. For Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." The Word of God teaches us to “Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.” – Matthew 5:44.
The Word of God tells us again and again, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God." For it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”- Romans 12:19.
We read in the Book of Joshua, when he becomes old, he tells the people to leave everything to the Lord as it is the Lord who will fight every battle and give victory to his people. “And now you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you.” – Joshua 23:3.
“Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; But on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called- that you might inherit a blessing.” – 1 Peter 3:9.
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure pressed down, shaken together running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” – Luke 6:38. If you give more of hatred and revenge to others you will get the same back.
My dear brothers and sisters, let us try to be more like Jesus and spread love to all we meet. And remember, “This battle is not for you to fight; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf.” – 2 Chronicles 20:17.
