In the old testament God has spoken about his mercy to Abraham, Moses and many other prophets. “Because the Lord your God is merciful God. He will neither abandon you nor destroy you, he will not forget the covenant with your ancestors that he swore to them” ( Deut 4:31). Now at end times God is speaking about his mercy through his son Jesus. Jesus is a merciful God. His love for humankind is so much that he wishes no one should escape from his merciful love. Jesus never desires to punish sinners, but he is willing to heal them through his mercy. “He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction” (Psalm 107:20)

Jesus is telling each one of us “I desire mercy not sacrifice. For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.” (Mathew 9:13). Therefore his door of mercy is always open to us. Whoever refuses to enter the door of his mercy, they will have to enter the door of his justice on the judgment day. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus we read “the rich man died and was buried and in Hades he was being tormented. The poor Lazarus also died and was carried by angels to be with Abraham. From the hell the rich man begged Abraham to send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in the water and cool his tongue. Abraham said between you and us a great chasm has been fixed so that those who might want to pass from him to you cannot do so and no one can cross from there to us.” (Luke 14:19-26). “Today if you hear his voice do not harden your heart” (Heb 4:7). “Do not delay. Get up be baptized and have your sins washed away, calling on his name.” (Acts 22:16). Otherwise God will tell us “when I called they would not hear, so when they call I would not hear.” (Zech 7:13)

Jesus spoke to St. Foustina and said “Let the sinner have no fear to come to me. Their sins may be more than all the sand in the world but if they come to me I will drown them in my divine mercy and cleanse them. Their souls may be rotten with sins but if they return to me I will cleanse them as white as snow”. “Yet even now says the Lord return to me with all your heart with fasting, with weeping and with mourning, rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord your God for he is gracious and merciful, slow in anger and abounding in steadfast love and relents from punishing.” (Joel 2:12-13)

We do not know when our end comes but surely we know everyone has an end!! “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of their life, and that – day catch you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth.” (Luke 21:34-36). No matter how big sinners we are, Let us keep our trust on his divine mercy. “For the son of man came to seek out and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10).

Every soul in heaven is holy and rejoicing in the presence of God. This is because they entered the doors of his mercy while living on the earth. Therefore let us enter the door of this mercy and after death we too will join every holy soul in heaven rejoicing in the presence of God.
