All of us have experienced intimate relationship with God when we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Even I have experienced those beautiful moment with my Jesus. In the beginning I used to think that I was a perfect follower of my Lord, but this continued only till when I kept my first step in this world while going to my college after renewing my life in my Lord. After that my love for Jesus instead of flourishing it was getting buried deep inside my heart. I was wondering what was happening in my life, was God angry with me and doesn’t want me anymore? While I was in this great distress Lord spoke to me through his word. Saying When I wanted to gather them, says the Lord, there are no grapes on the vine, no figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has passed away from them. Jer 8:13
While reading this it really saddens me, but at the same time the word of God says For the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights P3;12. Then I realized, ‘yes, what my Lord have said is true.’ Even though I used to say that I have accepted Lord and left my old life behind, I wasn’t producing fruits which the Lord was expecting from me. Toady the Lord expect us to bear fruit and nothing else. By contrast, the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Gala 5:22, even though I had left my old life behind I had still kept in my heart jealousy, hatred, anger, prejudices, which are the works of flesh read in Gala 5:20
And I had a really bad habit of looking down upon those are living a worldly life. You may say it is a human nature, but the truth is we are in his image and likeness, (read in Gen 1:26)
And in God there is no evil, for he is good. Evil have come in to this world through Satan and through Adam who obeyed Satan. When we live a worldly life, we are the children of Adam, but when we accept Jesus, we are the children of God For just as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Rom 5:19.
But to all who received him (Jesus), who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God. John 1:12
Now don’t take our human weakness as an excuse to run away from perfection and continue to live in sin, but the word of God gives us a call to move towards perfection. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect Matthew 5:48.
You and I may think how is it possible to be perfect as our heavenly Father is? Yes, I agree it is difficult but not impossible. Word of God says Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Rom 12:21 so we can overcome jealousy with appreciation, anger with love, judging attitude by humbling our self and so on.
If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat; and if they are thirsty, give them water to drink; for you will heap coals of fire on their heads, and the Lord will reward you. P 25:21-22 here is God asking us to be cunning? To act purposely good and indirectly hurt our fellow neighbour? Bible never teaches us to hurt our enemies. But God asks us to pray for them and love them. Here our enemy means the Satan. in Eph 6:2 saysFor our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the power of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. This verse makes us clear that the Satan is your real enemy and not your brother and sister, so by helping and loving your neighbour in times of need you are really pouring burning coals on Satan who is your real enemy, and by doing this you are overcoming evil by good.
Shun your youthful passion and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from pure heart. 2 Tim2:22 and most important thing is overcoming all worldly desire, and never letting them rule over our lives. It was very easy for me to leave behind all kinds of addictions, worldly norms etc but it was really difficult to leave behind anger, hatred, jealousy, again I may call it as a human nature. It will find impossible for us leave all these things, but Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible. Mat 19:26
For God everything is possible so let’s seek his help in this fight, and in this fight, we are not alone, for word of God says And I will ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever. Jhn 14:16,along with this there are many lot promises saying that he is with us. TheLord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still. Exo 13:14. So toady if we are not producing fruit its because we have not allowed God to take control of our lives and so we feel weak in this fight and fall away from him. Today let us surrender our lives to him and let him take care of us and surely, we will be a fruitful tree in the garden of our Lord. Praise The Lord.
